How often, and more importantly, HOW WELL do you clean your’s?

I had a big job to do today.

So, last night, I pulled the blower filters, filled a 5 gallon bucket with very hot water, put 2 cups of industrial degreaser in the water, and one cup of 99% isopropyl alcohol.
I put the filters in, and let them soak overnight. When I got to the shop this morning, I found the water was quite grey. I then scrubbed them with a brush, and put them back in fresh hot water for another 1/2 hour. I then rinsed them under hot running water.
Now, I usually clean my filters every other day, and thought that was good enough.

Boy was I wrong. Doing a long soak was like having a new machine.

We did a 425’ run today, and the suction was incredible.

I’m going to run this system once a week. I guess it’s a filter ‘deep clean’.

Try it, you’ll be very surprised how well it works.

Just food for thought.

I spray them with water whenever I think about it
I run a Devistator filter so not much reaches them
You’d be surprised by what the ‘mist’ brings through…
Not so much dirt and debris, but cleaner and micro soiling…
If the Sahara desert can deposit dust in North America by the trade winds, I’m betting that there’s ALOT that sneaks by the filter…

It clogs up, proven to me by my experiment.

I run a Dev aswell… we go through probably 6-10 strainers a week.

Don’t be stubborn, TRY IT.

My Cleanco has 2. I’ve upped the girth and length of both filters. They are simply hydraulic oil filters. You can get them at any industrial supply store that caterers to the heavy equipment supplier. Eg; tractor supply, or excavator supply store. I also increased the micron by 5k n’s…. WAY better suction.
Zero detriment to the machine.

Finally you’ve given me some useful information! If it turns out to be true I might give you a break on a future DAP.

I’m kinda stubborn also. It’s hard to believe there’s a difference in your soaking cleaning va spraying it out. I just can’t see there being a noticeable difference

I’m going to run this experiment in our service department.

The condition of filters, strainers, and recovery tank gaskets on many units we service makes me wonder how these companies remove any water at all when they clean.

For every “super sucker” out there who over wets carpet due to haste and a lack of caring, there are dozens more who “try”, but have such neglected machines that their work product suffers equally.

I'll give you a little story about all the "super suckers" out there who neglected their unit

I borrowed my old boss's titan575 from him way back in my early years, probably about 15 years ago or so, because my tm was down.

So I went to pick up his "trailer" (yes the guy that talked me into using a trailer, had one too) and went to do a few jobs.

That titan had ZERO suction. What did I notice? The blower filter had a huge layer of dry sludge covering the blower filter!!!!! AND the blower belts were so loose, they couldn't be tightened any more. I was furious!!!! I had to go to the industrial store to buy some new belts, install them on the job, and pressure wash the blower filter off. His idiot brother, who was running the cc division of his business at the time, only cleaned out the basket filter.

Man, I don't miss those days at all. Plus, the wand I used was a hydrahoe with no glide with that machine. WOW!!!! no wonder the old guys have trashed backs and shoulders. DUMBASS MANUFACTURERS DONT TEST THEIR TOOLS!!!!! or this tool would've never been put on the market

Sharing this with my son, my truck mount repairman/installer

He shares your observations often.

I didn’t know you had a son. Is he more socially adept than his Dad? Mine is.

He's that rare mechanic that likes people and doesn't get upset when they chat with him while he works....and yes, a nicer man than his father is :)

What ticks him off is bad equipment design....and messy trucks though.

But he keeps those thoughts away from our customers' ears

This is what sets Dan off.

I remind him:

"Guys that have messy trucks are the ones that have the most trouble. Guys that don't care about the inside of the truck are also the ones who don't change oil, repair things before they get bad, let their machines freeze, etc. Most of your income comes from guys who have messy trucks"

(Food for thought isn't it?)
