But oh my, they (choose to) live in some seriously filthy conditions.
The range hasn't been cleaned in year, the carpet since it was installed 15 year ago, pissy cats, garbage all over the yard and garage.

I gave them three hours of cleaning for $220.

There are a couple of homes that we do that seem to have life ‘dialed in’. The perfect family, perfect life… nuclear family if you will…

Whenever we service these homes, I try to be stealth, and look for markers or clues as to know they do it…

Thus far, I still haven’t figured out the magic formula….

That was very kind of you Mike

Over the years, I’ve visited homes of people that were beneath many people’s standards of cleanliness

The reasons are numerous:

Overworked, over stressed parents

Kids with mental or physical health issues that exhausted the energy and resources of the parents

Spouses with mental or physical health issues that overwhelmed the resources of the other spouse

Rarely was it ever some sort of moral failing of the individuals in the home.

I’ve been aware of a lot of alcoholism, spousal and child abuse, criminal activity, other sorts of ugly behavior in the neatest of homes....and the most love and decency in the most unkempt.

I don’t judge, I just help when I can.

As you seem to have.

Maybe it is a perfect home, down deep where it really matters

I grew up with a guy in my neighborhood who used to regularly relieve himself in his pants. We’d all be playing in the street and he’d stop and do it and continue playing. His whole family was like that and I hated playing in his house it was so nasty. I saw him at a funeral awhile back. He didn’t have a tooth in his head and looked like a crack addict but was still just as nice a guy as you could ever meet. I hope he cleans his pants before he gets to heaven.

The daughter is Laura Wilder redux, and the two older kids who are on their own and doing great, undoubtedly because the parents were fully focused.

I know I could get many men from my Bible study group to show up and haul their yard junk away in a matter of minutes.

Or I could do it myself when my trailer..

I saw that task was on his ( old) honeydo list...

What I’ve ascertained, I think the magic formula is happiness…

Both with self, spouse, offspring, and those that fill the moments between…and of course believing in something higher…

Being happy not only in the moment, but happy with the outcome aswell…

My standards of cleanliness have declined the more kids I have. When I just had the big kid, the whole house had to be spotless before anyone could come over, including the bookshelf and the closets. When Cole came, I still had time to clean because the autism makes him a great independent player. After Cade, you’re lucky if it looks like a bomb went off and sprayed toys everywhere. It’s usually worse.

My oldest daughter and her 3 year old son moved in a couple of months ago.

I am so glad she isn't trying to go it alone with him. It takes our constant efforts to clean up after who I now affectionately call "tornado Matthew". He does his share to be fair, but there is only so much a 3 year old can do.

Two? I can't fathom the task.

That's why you liked my use of "sisyphean", wasn't it?
